NEW FUTURAMA SOON!

bender-applause
Hey everyone, we're in JUNE now, do you know what that means?

The NEW season of FUTURAMA airs June 24th at 10pm(9pm Central) on Comedy Central!

And even better, they're showing the first two episodes back-to-back that night. Both of which are rad episodes which have jokes that make me snicker to myself. :)

WATCH and get all your friends to watch, man!

The first Futurama episode that I Assistant Directed (with Stephen Sandoval as Director), 603, will airing be the following Thurs, July 1st! My other episodes are 610, 616 and 623. I am SUPER PROUD of the work that we all did on all the episodes (not just these). They look GORGEOUS and they're really funny. It's rare that I feel that proud of a tv show I've worked on. I can't wait for you guys to see them.

Comedy Central has been showing sneak peaks of the final full color show... but also some of the preproduction storyboards and character models, so keep watching their blog for more! I think it's pretty awesome that they're showing storyboards, it's rare that this type of stuff is shown.

This shot below is from my first episode, 603,... and it's actually from a section that I storyboarded. :)

And here's a couple more teasers from Stephen and my show, too:

Hi, I'm one of those who's started reading your lj 'cause of Futurama&DW and has hitherto been doing so silently and creepily, but now I really can't resist asking a silly question: Do both Groening and DXC have to approve every single piece of your concept arts individually? Or is it enough if either of them approves? Just cause I assumed since Matt was more into designing and David into writing Matt would be supervising the character designs. I did say it was a silly question, but it really interests me, because I wanna know as much as I can about the making of the show.
I hope they include the storyboards on the dvd, I love comparing them to the finished episode. Aahh, new Futurama totally rocks. *.*
Do pardon me for the intrusion.

I can't really say for sure, but it's my impression that they both approve of designs and the animatics, etc. They do see everything we do. David has ideas about designs, too, as do the writers. The director of the show often does a preliminary sketch or suggestion (based on the script) to the character designer, and then what they do is sent to DXC and Groening for approval before it goes into the show (most of the time. Sometimes a design is done directly in storyboards without approval due to time constraints and then is revised later as nessesary) and then they (DXC, Groening, Writer(s)) see everything (designs, storyboards, etc,) as a whole in the form of an animatic. Most of the time we screen that together (Assistant Director, Director, Writer(s), DXC, Groening) in a room, and then we talk about it, etc... and then make changes based on that meeting before it's sent overseas for inbetweens and full color.

I hope they include storyboards in the DVDs, too! That would be cool!

Wow, that sounds more awesome and efficient than I'd thought, and those screenings must be hell of a fun. Thanks for the info! *.*
